Our story

Rooted in the Gulf Coast, on the policyholder's side

We are based at 15586 County Rd 436, Alvin, TX 77511 — in Brazoria County, in the middle of the communities we serve. That is not a marketing detail. It means we know which Friendswood streets took water in Harvey, which Galveston County addresses sit inside the TWIA windstorm territory, and how the Brazoria County floodplain office handles a substantial damage determination.

This region has taught its property owners some expensive lessons. Alvin holds the United States record for twenty-four-hour rainfall. Harvey flooded homes in Dickinson and Friendswood that had never flooded before. The 2024 derecho broke windows in downtown Houston, and spring hail quietly ruins several thousand roofs a year across the metro.

What we have learned working those claims is simple enough: the damage is rarely disputed. The scope is. Carrier estimates capture the obvious room and stop, and the smoke in the wall cavities, the moisture in the subfloor, the roof slope nobody walked and the code upgrades the rebuild will legally require never make it onto the page.

So that is the job. We read the policy properly, inspect the property ourselves, build an independent scope and estimate in the same software the carriers use, and hand them a document they have to answer line by line. You deal with your family and your business. We deal with the insurance company.

What you can expect

  • A free policy and damage review before you commit to anything
  • A written contract with the fee stated, as Texas law requires
  • An independent inspection — every slope, every room, every structure
  • Direct handling of the carrier's calls, requests and deadlines
  • No fee at all unless your claim recovers

How we work

Three things we will not compromise on

One side of the table

We are licensed by the Texas Department of Insurance to represent policyholders. We do not take insurer work, so there is never a question about whose interests the file serves.

Evidence over argument

Carriers respond to specifics. Test squares and impact counts, moisture readings against a dry standard, wipe testing for soot migration, dated storm data for your coordinates.

Straight answers

If a claim is being handled properly we will tell you so and charge you nothing. We would rather lose a file than take a fee for work that does not need doing.

How it works

What happens after you call

No fee up front, and no fee at all unless the claim recovers. Here is the whole process.

  1. Free claim review

Call us and we read the policy — every coverage, endorsement, sub-limit and deductible. If your claim is being handled properly, we will tell you so.

  2. Independent inspection

We inspect the property ourselves: every roof slope, moisture readings across affected and unaffected material, thermal scanning, HVAC, attic and detached structures.

  3. Scope, estimate and inventory

A line-by-line replacement cost estimate in the same software carriers use, plus the contents inventory and any specialist reports the file needs.

  4. Negotiation

We present the documentation, respond in writing to the carrier's position, and work the gap between the two estimates — through appraisal if it comes to that.

  5. Settlement and follow-through

We track the actual cash value payment, the recoverable depreciation holdback and its deadline, and any supplemental claim as the rebuild uncovers more.

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? A phone call costs nothing and usually answers it in five minutes.

Who is Joe Hensley Public Insurance Adjusters?

A licensed Texas public insurance adjusting firm based in Alvin, Brazoria County, representing property owners on catastrophe claims across Houston and the Gulf Coast. We work only for policyholders — never for insurance companies.

Are you licensed in Texas?

Yes. Public insurance adjusters in Texas are licensed and regulated by the Texas Department of Insurance, which requires examination, a surety bond and continuing education. Licences can be verified directly with TDI.

How do you get paid?

On contingency — an agreed percentage of the amount actually recovered on your claim, capped by Texas law and set out in a written contract you sign before any work begins. Nothing is payable up front, and nothing is payable if there is no recovery.

Do you work with my contractor?

Yes, and the roles stay separate for good reason. Your contractor prices and performs the repair; we document the loss, interpret the policy and negotiate with the carrier. Under Texas law a contractor cannot act as a public adjuster on a property they are also contracting to repair.

Do not settle for the first number

If the offer does not cover the work, that gap is documentable. Free policy and damage review, no fee unless your claim recovers more.
